Boing Boing has an excellent post on the history and current state of affairs of chiptune music, with some nice sample music and links. This could easily force “regular” music off of my iPhone for weeks. Check out this Miles Davis cover here, or Carry On My Wayward Son by Kansas (covered by The Disco King) if that’s more your speed.

Jonathan Mann, my favorite one-thing-per-day guy, made a nice Chat Roulette song for March 27.

Ben Folds does it again, in Baltimore. Wish there was a higher quality version.

Ben Folds does the piano-improv-on-Chat-Roulette thing at a live show shortly after Ben Folds look-alike Merton did the same thing.

EDIT: This was probably the best, cleanest footage they had, and of course, nudity was edited out. Fans with cell phones are putting up other (low-quality clips) on Youtube as well. I’m curious if he plays any songs for perverts.

EDIT: Yup. Ben Folds sings to a dude in his underwear as the first song that was mostly edited out. Here’s another version of it.

Guy on piano improvs for the kind people of ChatRoulette. Totally made my morning!

“There are few cases in which mere popularity should be considered a proper test of merit; but the case of song-writing is, I think, one of the few.” Edgar Allan Poe

If only he knew that one day, the Alan Parsons Project would use his writing as some lyrics for some trippy progressive rock.
